BHOOMIKA SAREES

BHUMIKA CHAWLA IN A CHAMKILI (SPARKLING) SAREE

BHUMIKA CHAWLA IN A CHAMKILI (SPARKLING) SAREE

bhumika_chawla_saree

Gorgeous saree; great for festivities.

In india the festival season starts pretty soon, so get ready for all the Diwali parties and for prayers to all the goddesses (Durga, Ambiaka, Kali, Lakshmi).

Goddesses might be inclined to grant you your wises if you wear pretty sarees! Really, it is true! If not, how do you explain all Bengali women wearing their best sarees on the Poojo day?

VIDISHA PAVATE IN BLACK AND SILVER SAREE LOOKING STUNNING!

black_silver_saree

That is beautiful! A great combination of black saree and silver blouse.

GORGEOUS BLOUSE DESIGN

vidisha_saree

Not sure if this is a saree or not; but I love the blouse design. There is silver bead work that gives the blouse the form and shape.

I can imagine this blouse, perhaps a tad shorter version of it, would go well with a saree with appropriate bead work on it, may be just on the border or a small part of the pallu.

Thanks to Idlebrain for these pictures.

I love the bejewled border on this saree and the short choli adds to the appeal of the saree making Namitha look as sexy as she can be; certainly a lot more sexier looking in saree than in one of those capri pants.

Is it just me or I am noticing more and more of the Bhandej sarees with Bandhini designs these days.

I have a special liking for Bandhini designs; it reminds me of beautiful, simple and charming gujarati folks, I love the bright color and I love the techniques of making the design.

So I am a little biased when a genre that I like is updated and made popular again.

Notice that other than the variation is color, the saree is pretty simple, unlike the saree that Celina Jaitly is wearing. There is some embellishment in the blouse but not so much that it detract from the ‘down to earth” character of the saree.

Mangalsutra she is wearing is a nice touch too; but then she is trying to put sindoor in her part to convey devotion to her husband, so it all makes sense.

I have a special liking for mixing green and red; they don’t always look very sophisticated together, but sometimes that’s exactly what you are looking for.

SIMRAN IN SEXY SAREE

SIMRAN-THIRAI: EXPLAIN TO ME WHY DOES THIS BLOUSE GO WITH THIS SAREE?

Simran-Thirai

Am I missing something here?

Considering the makeup, she wasn’t too busy to have time to pick the right blouse; she generally has a good sense of color and balance, so what gives?

HATE THE BLACK BLOUSE IN THIS SAREE COMBO

Image

I know, one of you is going to say that black is at least a quaternary of quainary color in the saree; more over, black goes with everything. Wrong!

The whole reason for choosing the secondary or tertiary color for the blouse is that it shows continuity and in this case the continuity is broken by the presence of multitude of colors in between.

I think the blouse could have used a trim to bring it in line with the saree design.

SAMEERA REDDY IN RED SAREE

Does the jewelry seem coordinated with the saree design?

It does look kind of interesting!

SANGEETA GHOSH IN A SIENNA COLORED SAREE

Image

Some might call this color umber, but this is the sienna color. The name of the color comes from Siena, Italy and it was used as paint pigment.

sienna_color

It is an interesting combination of yellow and brown.

I am keeping the discussion to the color because I have nothing notable to say about the saree except that is an earnest, congenial saree. I think a little tighter drape and a different fall attachment might have improved it a bit.

GORGEOUS NON-WET SAREE PICTURE : STUNNING BLACK SAREE FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY

sexy_black_saree

Took me a minute to fully appreciate the beauty of this picture. Yes, it is taken in a shallow water but the saree is not wet, or at least the part that is visible is not wet.

I love how the jet black hair are flowing in the water, the bikini blouse with white embroidery and the saree with a think brocade border adds just the right color.

I think it would look better if less of the skin was showing but all in all this is a stunning picture.

THE BEST SAREES

e looks like she has been transported from future and placed in 2nd century BCE in front of the temple.

MEENA’S BLUE SAREE

meena_blue_saree

I encountered this wall paper and found it kind of interesting; I didn’t realize the humor in it till I noticed the instructions on the bottom left.

For pixel challenged viewers, it says “pull” and just in case you are not sure, it even gives you a direction to pull.

SIMPLICITY NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE. CHICKNKARI EMBROIDERY ON A WHITE SAREE

white_saree

I don’t particularly like it when people refer to ChicknKari embroidery as just “chicken” - e.g., oh, thats a nice chicken saree!

Doesn’t evoke the right picture in your mind! Can you imagine chickens running around with white sarees on them!

It should have been called NoorJahan embroidery, or embroidery of prophets.

Traditionally Chicknkari is the white thread embroidery done on the white muslin or mulmul. The word chikan comes from the Persian word Chakeen meaning making delicate patterns on the fabric.

The art is said to be introduced by Noorjahan the beautiful queen of Emperor Jahangir. She is said to be an expert in embroidery and inspired by the Turkish embroidery. According to Megasthenes, the chikan originated in East Bengal. He mentions chikan, the florals on fine muslins in 3rd century BC. The craftsmen believe that the origin goes back to the time of Prophet. It is believed that while he was passing through a village in Uttar Pradesh, he requested a villager for water. On being offered that, he gave the art of Chikankari to the poor villager as an art that will never let him go hungry.

Anyway, back to the white chicken saree, oh, I mean, white chickankari embroidered saree.

Its hard to see how pretty the embroidery is in the pictures. The details don’t really show up well. But I do know that it can be very intricate, very luxurious, very simple and very proper.

I remember a friend of mine ( Hi T!) entered a beauty pageant a while ago and while others were busy matching the color of the blouse with the color of the jewelry, she waltz in there with a white saree with minimal make up and minimal jewelry and she looked so stunning that judges had no choice but to pick her!

UNUSUAL SAREE BLOUSE COMBINATION THAT BARELY WORKS

I would not have expected this combination to work, but somehow it is not as bad as one might have imagined.
